Whatever you decide to do, get your foot in the door of Asia. If you live in the United States, then you are already part of the current dominant culture of the world. Over the next few decades, the United States will be replaced by China and perhaps India as the dominant power broker on the planet. The surrounding Asian countries will also benefit from this power shift. Strive to have a foot in both sides of this shift.
This change is primarily economic. The United States has stopped growing while China and India are exploding with growth. China and India each have several times the US population. They are overflowing with cheap labor and produce most of the world’s consumer goods. As they get richer producing goods for the American market, they are consuming more and more of their own products. This strengthens their economies from within while weakening ours from the outside.
The United States is racking up a staggering amount of debt to China. All that talk you hear about the American deficit is really about what the United States owes China. This transfer of wealth can only go on for so long. Sometime pretty soon, China will realize that they don’t have to cater to America. They will be able to dictate what they want.
Economic changes always precede cultural changes. The English language spread around the world along with the British Empire. American movies and music spread around the world along with the economic boom of the United States after World War II. The rise of Asia is just the next step in the evolution of world history.
It would be easy to be frightened of these changes. However, there is no need to be afraid.
The countries of Asia are not going to storm our shores and pillage our villages. The changes will be gradual and there will be more blending of ideas than destroying.
If you are positioned to take advantage of these changes, you will get very rich and become very important.
Start now and familiarize yourself with what is coming. Invest in Asia to take advantage of their booming economies. Consider working in an Asia related field to gain an advantage. If you are serious, study an Asian language. At the very least, travel to Asia to experience the future. Enjoy the adventure!
